Finnová, Marie ; Rynda, Ivan (advisor) ; Lapka, Miloslav (referee)
This work explores the influence of place of residence on the environmental attitudes and particularly their formation. These factors are family environment, personal nature experience or impact of social environment. For this reason, I conducted a case study of environmental attitudes and their formation process of the respondents from the village Hostouň and respondents from the Capital City of Prague. The theoretical part focuses on attitudes in general and issues of environmental attitudes. It provides an overview of socio- demographic factors which do affect the environmental attitudes, mainly the place of residence. I also deal with the measurement of environmental attitudes, and define the terms village and town. The empirical part provides analysis of twenty semistructured interviews - ten respondents from the village and ten respondents from the city. I also conducted research using the additional standardized questionnaire NEP. The aim of my thesis is to observe and to analyse one of Balzac's characters who appears mainly in The Human Comedy. Eugene Rastignac's character changes in the course of novels. And the change is caused by his environment and also by the surrounding characters. Concerning the methodological part of my work, I use two Czech theorists who deal with the typology of characters (František Všetička, Bohumil Fořt). I will try to choose relevant fragments of Balzac's novels where I will describe change of the character. At the end I point out the future development of the subject and also the actual usage of Rastignac's fate as a pattern of ambitious young man.

Since the 19th century, the processes of modernization, industrialization and urbanization have fundamentally impacted the spatial organization and the actual contents of social ties. In particular, the role of place of residence in everyday life has significantly changed. Compared to the past, the spatial distance is less relevant for maintenance of interpersonal ties and non-local social relations are of growing importance. This process has been recently enhanced by development of communication technologies and the Internet in particular. The Internet has transferred many social ties into virtual communities without any spatial reference.
